Can I ask for one little addition?  If people post their top ten,
could they also spend some time indicating WHY this author/book is on
the list?

What is it about Tolkien's Lord of the Rings that makes it one of your
top ten?

Why does Faulkner make your reading special?  What about those long,
rambling thoughts that casually stroll around the grounds and down the
fence to peek into a creek before turning over a rock in your hands
and contemplating the sky while chawing on some grass--what about
these thoughts makes you sigh?

What makes these books stand out?

Add that little bit of insight into the writing, would you?

Heck, you might learn something about yourself when you try to figure
out why Hemingway makes your bell toll?  Or at least about John Donne?
