I am :) thinking (hoping) no, but can send it to print journals, etc. :) and #2 do you should you can you list e-zines as places you have been :) published in your cover letter. I am hoping YES I'm not sure there is a "correct" response. This is still an area of adjustment. I'd say if you "published it" in an ezine, then sending it to a place that says they must be previously unpublished is a bit dicey. If they say they want "First North American Serial Publication Rights" you might want to discuss whether they consider ezine's as serials. However, if you want to list ezines as publications, then it makes sense to keep the same standard when you are submitting materials. The discussions I've had with lawyers indicate that "First Serial Publication" is NOT a legal term, rather it is one that the publishers, editors, and writers have generally agreed to. Basically, the publication staff wants to make sure you don't destroy the market for their publication of your writing. They usually are thinking about their competitors, not other media. I suspect this is changing, even as I write this. As for listing ezines--I certainly would. Be aware that you may have to explain what they are, and that you want them to be "good" references, but I certainly think they should count. I expect in the next few years that we'll see "rankings" of ezines, with some being "topdrawer" and tough to get into. Does that help? tink
