Meet the wonderful tutors in McCormick!

West Tower
Melinda Hale
(West 2,3)
Hello! I'm Melinda, the designated old person on 2 & 3 West. I'm a PhD student in Mechanical Engineering, and this is my third year at MIT. I've known I would be an engineer ever since I was two, and I took apart my potty training seat. Then at five, I took apart my tricycle. By seven I was starting to learn how to put things back together, which greatly pleased my parents. These days my job at MIT is to build machines, which I think is the coolest job ever. I used to be the Hall Councilor (same thing as a GRT, but for grad students) at Sidney-Pacifc graduate dorms, and the most popular things I owned were my power tools. If you ever need to borrow a drill, I've got you covered. I also have a lot of other things covered - help with cooking if you need it, directions to places you need to go, answers to questions you may have. I have my brownie recipe memorized and am always looking for an excuse to bake. Please feel free to stop by 317 anytime, whether for chocolate, conversation, or tools of any kind.

Emily Lo
(West 4,5)
Greetings from 4+5W! My name is Emily, and this is my second year as GRT in McCormick. I am a graduate student in architecture (Course 4) with an interest in international development and sustainable building. Although many people think I'm a Californian, I actually grew up around Philadelphia, PA and attended Columbia University in New York City. I worked as an architectural designer before coming back to graduate school, on projects from skyscrapers to cancer centers. In my 3+ years here, I have been involved with the Public Service Center and the Graduate Christian Fellowship, among other organizations.

Despite Boston being my current home, I have a great love for travel and discovery. While in college I studied abroad in Paris, and later my research and curiosity have brought me to places like Latin America, Cambodia, and Haiti. Don't worry, though - you will be able to find me holding a study break, listening to music, or baking tastiness in room 417. Feel free to come by and chat about life, food, or anything else, because my "schlumpy" couch and door are open to everyone!
Kim Jackson
(West 6,7)
Hello! My name is Kim, and I'm the GRT on 6th and 7th West. I'm currently a Master's student in Aerospace Engineering and my research involves designing intuitive interfaces that allow minimally trained operators to fly small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). I'm originally from Ohio, but I've been at MIT for the past 5 years (undergrad and grad, combined), so feel free to come ask me any questions about how to navigate MIT, classes, or Boston in general. Outside of classes and research, I enjoy playing the piano and being outdoors, mainly running along the Charles or hiking and camping up in New Hampshire and Maine. I also love to bake, so I'm looking forward to many excuses to try out new recipes. Come stop by 617 and introduce yourself!

East Tower
Bridget Wall
(East 2,3)
Hello! My name is Bridget Wall, and I'm the GRT for 2/3 East. I am originally from Minnesota, and I went to Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL, and received my undergraduate degree in biology and music. Here at MIT, I am pursuing my PhD in bioengineering (course 20). Our lab builds molecular tools to help study diseases like malaria. I have two younger brothers, and while my dad is retired, my mom is still working at Farnsworth Aerospace Elementary Magnet School in St. Paul, Minnesota. In my free time, I love playing with the MIT Symphony Orchestra, reading, cooking, going thrift store shopping, and working out. Feel free to stop by room 325 and say hello!

Veronica Weiner
(East 4,5)
Hi! I'm Veronica, the GRT for McCormick 4th and 5th East. This will be my third year in McCormick, and I am very excited about meeting new residents and spending time with old friends. There are usually lots of snacks available in my room and some good books to borrow... stop by anytime!

I was born in Parma, Italy, grew up in New Jersey, then came to MIT as an undergraduate (courses 14, 15, and 9). After MIT, I was lucky enough to live in France for two years, where I worked in neuroscience research and explored "the city of lights." Now I am back for a Ph.D. in Brain and Cognitive Sciences. I would be happy to talk with anyone interested in studying or working abroad.

One of my favorite parts of the GRT job is the study breaks! I am looking forward to crafts, creative food nights, movies, and outings around Boston. If you have suggestions, please send an email or come visit on the 5th floor.

Rumi Chunara
(East 6,7)
Welcome to McCormick! I am very happy to be holding down the fort up at the 6th and 7th East floors. This is my sixth year at MIT, where I am a PhD candidate in the Harvard-MIT division of Health Sciences and Technology, and my fifth year at McCormick. Living at McCormick is one of my many favourite things about being at MIT. My research involves bulding neat devices and techniques for biological sensing and diagnostics. And in general, I'm interested in how technology will change the future. You will often see me biking over to the other side of the river to take classes at Harvard Med. School or emerging out of the Media Lab where my research takes place.

I'm originally from Canada, and spent my undergrad years at that "other" Institute of Technology over on the West Coast. I love to feed my mind, body and soul through things like amazing food, world music and yoga; although currently my mind is more flexible than my body. Come by anytime for a taste of one or more of the three!

The Annex
Jane Wang
(Annex)
Welcome to McCormick and especially the Annex! This is going to be my second year at McCormick, and I've been having such a wonderful time am so extremely excited about it. The time spent with all Annexers watchin House M.D. is especially exciting. I am a third year graduate student in course 3. My research involves biodegradable material and the many applications of it. I work half of my time in E25 and the other in Draper Laboratory in Tech Square. I was born in Indiana, and moved to Taiwan when I was two. I came back to the U.S. for college in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a very nice and quiet town, as a Chemist. I love singing, have been singing in choir for 15 years, and am a member of the MIT concert choir. I am also a big crochet/knitter, and would love those who are interested to stop by to knock on my door!
