EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE :
"ExecComm" is composed of the house president, vice president/ treasurer, secretary, and the chairwomen.
  • PRESIDENT

  • As head of ExecComm, the house president oversees the activities of McCormick Hall and works closely with the vice president/ treasurer and secretary to guide the chairs.

  • SECRETARY

  • As a member of ExecComm, the secretary works with the president and the vice president/treasurer to oversee the chairs and to hold house meetings. Her main tasks are to announce house meetings, record meeting minutes, and then post the minutes.

  • VICE PRESIDENT/TREASURER

  • The VP/Treasurer manages money for the dorm and assists the President when she needs help. All of the money that the chairwomen and floor representatives spend goes through the VP/Treasurer.

These are McCormick residents who serve the dorm in various positions, draft policies for their positions, purchase itmes for the dorm to use, and plan events for the dorm to enjoy. Nominations are generally taken in November and ballot voting is held the first week of December. This schedule allows the new officers time to adjust to their new duties during IAP.


Programming


  • BIG/LIL SIS CHAIR
    The Big/Lil sis chairs basically try to make the adjustment to MIT easier for freshman by providing them with a big sister. They pair the freshman up with the upperclassman according to common interests. They also organize fun activities such as movie nights, study breaks, etc for the big sis and lil sis to get to know each other. The goal of the whole program is to hopefully develop life-long friendships.

  • SOCIAL CHAIR
    The social chairs are responsible for providing a social atmosphere in the dorm through sponsoring and organizing various events such as semiformals, dinners, trips to places like the Boston Ballet, Freeport (outlet shopping mall), and hiking in the White Mountains. An unelected social committee typically assists the social chairs. Any resident can be part of the committee. The social chairs are always open to ideas, so if you've got one, share it with them!

  • STUDY BREAK CHAIR
    The study break chair position involves hosting dorm-wide study breaks at least once a month and usually during finals week.

  • ACADEMIC CHAIRS

  • DINING CHAIR
    Dining chair acts as an advocate for residents on issues of dining. Helps formulate residence dining program in keeping with the wants and needs of residents. Goal: To create a standing McCormick Dining Committee that would foster new ideas for both improving the dining hall experience and increasing participation.

  • DIRECTORY CHAIR
    The main job of the directory chair is to produce the McCormick Directory, which is a book containing residents' pictures and basic information. The book also contains information on the housemasters, the floor tutors, and McCormick government.

  • ROOM ASSIGNMENTS CHAIR
    The room assignments chair is responsible for conducting the room lotteries which determine where people room. The Room Assignments Policy is determined by a house vote. It outlines the point system which determines each person's chances for a particular room. The Room Assignments Policy is available upon request from the room assignments chair by leaving a note in her mailbox. Room lotteries occur during the Fall, IAP, and Spring terms.

Facilities

  • ATHLETIC CHAIR
    The person holding this position is responsible for promoting athletic events for the dorm. She organizes IM teams, sets up intramural games, and provides the upkeep of the Exercise Room.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL CHAIR
    The recycling chair makes sure residents are knowledgeable on recycling options, the floor reps are informed on recycling procedures, and that each kitchen has its share of bins.

  • FACILITIES CHAIR
    This chairwoman is responsible for tuning pianos, providing parking permits, and the upkeep of the sewing room and darkroom. This woman makes sure the copier and printer are running smoothly. She is not to be confused with the Residential Computer Consultant (RCC) who is usually a different person altogether. The computer/copier chair is also responsible for the typewriter in the Typewriter Room, and the dishcloset.

  • LIBRARY CHAIR
    The library chair is responsible for maintaining the collection of academic "bibles" that are kept for general use within McCormick. The bibles can be requested from the chair by leaving a note in her mail box. Bibles can also be donated to the library by leaving them at desk. The library chair is also responsible for the magazine subscriptions and books kept behind desk.

  • TV/VCR CHAIR
    This chairwoman is responsible for taking care of McCormick's TVs, VCRs, videos, games, and the Recreation Room.

  • COMMUNITY SERVICE CHAIR
    Dedicated to directing McCormick's kind-hearted residents toward community issues in need of service. It is well known that McCormick gals are warm, loving, and loyal...the Community Service Chairs make it their job showing that, contrary to popular belief, community service does NOT need to take a huge chunk out of your schedule, or be a barely-tolerable sacrifice. For the 2003 year the CS Chairs will be throwing monthly community service activities. (February - "Cookies for CASPAR", March - Spring baskets, April - Easter egg hunt @ Children's Hospital, May - Walk for Hunger...and weekly - volunteering at CASPAR!) SMILE, GET INVOLVED, AND BE REWARDED BY THE HEART!!!

  • DESK CAPTAIN
    She is the McCormick resident who oversees all the desk workers and is second-in-command after the House Manager.

  • JUDICIAL COMMITTEE (JUDCOMM)
    Judcomm is responsible for making judicial decisions which affect the dorm and require interpretation of any rules set out by McCormick government. Often, any problems such as violation of room reservation rules may be presented to Judcomm. There are five Judcomm members (including the Judcomm chair) and one alternate. Elections for Judcomm positions are held in April.

  • RUSH/ORIENTATION CHAIR
    The R/O chair is responsible for planning all events for McCormick's potential and incoming residents. This includes organizing pre-frosh assignments and events for McCormick women during Campus Preview Weekend (CPW) in the spring as well as all McCormick events during Orientation.

  • ROOM RESERVATIONS CHAIR
    The room reservations chair reserves rooms for residents who've filled out the appropriate forms (which are now online!). Forms must be submitted at least 3 days in advance. The room reservations does not handle guest room reservations, that is taken care of by the deskworker.

  • UNDERGRADUATE ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE CHAIR
    The UA rep attends UA Council Meetings. The UA reps from all the dormitories convene to discuss various policies and issues that affect undergraduate life here at MIT such as housing, dining, and election processes.

    The Webmaster keeps the web page current and useful for residents and visitors.
