"Imaging the Human Brain in Health and Disease" A symposium of the Martinos Imaging Center at the McGovern Institute 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, May 30, 2006
Structural and functional brain imaging with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has revolutionized the study of the human mind and brain the same way that the invention of the telescope revolutionized astronomy. The new Martinos Imaging Center at the McGovern Institute is the first center for human brain imaging at MIT, and is designed to serve scientists throughout the Boston-Cambridge area conducting studies on both brain disorders and the functions of the normal brain.
The symposium, entitled "Imaging the Human Brain in Health and Disease," is hosted by the McGovern Institute and the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST). It will celebrate the opening of the Center by bringing together some of the country's leading researchers using brain imaging in both basic and clinical research studies. The speakers include Marlene Behrmann (Carnegie Mellon), Randy Buckner (Harvard University), Marcus Raichle (Washington University), Bruce Rosen (Harvard Medical School), Nora Volkow (NIDA), Brian Wandell (Stanford University), Daniel Weinberger (NIMH/NIH).
The event will take place from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm at the McGovern Institute in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Complex, 43 Vassar Street (building 46) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The entrance to the McGovern Institute is at the corner of Main Street and Albany Street. The event is free and open to the public, although registration is now closed you may watch live via webcast.
