Ed Boyden, associate member of the McGovern Institute, was one of seven junior MIT faculty to win a 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship. The fellowships are intended to enhance the careers of the very best young faculty members in specified fields of science at a pivotal stage in their work. Boyden invents new tools for analyzing and engineering brain circuits and for devising new approaches to solve some of the intractable neurological and psychiatric problems of our time. Boyden also received the MIT Alumni Class Funds Award for Educational Innovation and his lab was featured in the "Best 5 Science Moments of 2007" by the Discovery Channel.
