Research summary:
The goal of this project is to reconstitute a lymphatic capillary system in a 3D microfluidic system. Through the regulation of different biochemical (growth factors and stromal cells) and mechanical cues (interstitial flow and matrix stiffness), we are inducing capillary sprouting of lymphatic endothelial cells into a 3D gel matrix to reconstitute lymphatic capillaries on chip, while characterizing their morphological features accordingly to each angiogenic stimulus. Additionally, we are looking at how the integration of a functional lymphatic capillaries, which allows for the drainage of solutes from the interstitial space, influences the formation and morphology of vascular networks within the same microenvironment.
