Massachusetts law requires new MIT students to meet a number of medical requirements before registering for classes. Here's what you need to know:
MIT Student Medical Report
All new undergraduate, transfer, graduate, and readmitted
MIT students must meet the medical pre-entrance
requirements as outlined on the Medical Report Form.
Health Insurance
All students must have health insurance that meets the requirements for the Massachusetts Qualified Student Health Insurance Plan (QSHIP). Students with J-1 visas under MIT visa sponsorship must have insurance that also meets United States Department of State regulations for themselves and their spouses and children who accompany them. All regular, registered MIT students and special students taking more than 27 units (including international students), are automatically enrolled in the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan and billed for the cost.
Students who already have health insurance that covers them in the United States and meets the Massachusetts QSHIP requirements may ask to waive mandatory enrollment in the MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan. For fall term, waivers must be submitted no later than September 30. For spring term, waivers must be submitted no later than February 28. For summer term, waivers must be submitted between April 8 and June 30. Please note that the Summer term waiving period is only for "Special" students (LFM, Sloan Fellow and 13-A).
