Share the Savings on ZocorThe MIT Medical Pharmacy is pleased to announce a new "Share the Savings" program that will allow members of the MIT Traditional and Flexible Health Plans to fill certain prescriptions for the cholesterol-lowering drug Zocor with no co-pay. All MIT Health Plan members with prescriptions for 20-mg. or 40-mg. Zocor will be offered the opportunity to fill their prescriptions with a supply of higher-strength tablets—40 mg. or 80 mg. respectively—which the patient can split in half to take their proper dose. The pharmacy will supply these patients with a free pill splitter and will waive the usual prescription co-pay. Pharmacists will confer with each patient and demonstrate the proper way to split the pills. The "Share the Savings" program is optional; eligible patients may choose whether or not to participate. The program is limited to prescriptions for Zocor 20 mg. and 40 mg., filled only at the MIT Medical Pharmacy. We are able to offer this program due to the current pricing structure for Zocor, and the program is subject to change depending on its success and any changes to Zocor's pricing structure. Please discuss questions about the program with your clinician, or contact the MIT Medical Pharmacy at 617-253-1517. health@mit goes onlineWith this issue, health@mit becomes an exclusively online publication. We've always had an online version of our print publication, but with the decision to move away from print entirely, we've undertaken a complete redesign that allows the publication to take full advantage of our new medium. In the new health@mit, you'll still find up-to-date health information, feature articles written especially for the MIT community, and old favorites like Ask Lucy. But you'll also find new components, like this issue's "Where does it hurt?" -- an interactive sidebar to our feature story on repetitive strain injury (RSI), and a perfect example of the way an electronic publication allows us to tailor the information we provide to the specific needs of individual readers. Sign up now to receive an email alert whenever a new issue of the newsletter goes online. As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. Let us know what you think of the new, electronic health@mit. Register for summer CPR and first aid classes nowMIT Medical's Center for Health Promotion & Wellness is offering several CPR and first aid courses this summer. Two "Heartsaver CPR" courses -- one focusing on the treatment of life-threatening emergencies in adults and older children, the other focusing on infants and young children -- may be taken separately or together, for a reduced fee. Also available are "Heartsaver First Aid" and "Heartsaver First Aid with Adult CPR." Both courses teach rescuers what to do for adult victims of medical emergencies or severe injuries in the critical first five minutes before emergency medical personnel arrive. The second course also includes CPR training. More information, including course schedules, fees, and registration information, is available at http://web.mit.edu/medical/c-cpr.html. |
