The MIT Affiliate Health Plan is available to MIT affiliate
fellows, visiting scholars, visiting professors, and visiting
scientists who meet both of the following requirements:
- Have a full- or part-time MIT appointment (at least 50
percent time) for a minimum of three months, but are not
receiving a salary or voucher payments from MIT
- Have one of the following job designations: visiting
scientist, visiting engineer, visiting scholar, visiting
economist, visiting research associate, visiting professor
(including assistant and associate professor), fellow,
Bantrell fellow, research fellow, post-doctoral fellow,
post-doctoral trainee, or sponsored research staff in the lab
for nuclear science
The plan comprises two parts:
- MIT Affiliate Medical Plan:
covers a wide range of services provided at MIT Medical,
including primary care, many medical specialties, 24-hour
urgent care, mental health care, and others.
- MIT Affiliate Extended
Insurance Plan: covers inpatient hospitalization,
including the birth of a child, inpatient mental health
and substance abuse treatment, surgical procedures, prescription
drugs, and other benefits.
Enrollment
MIT requires affiliates to have adequate health insurance.
If you have other insurance, you can waive coverage from
the MIT Affiliate Health Plan by completing the Affiliate
Waiver Form.
Your department can let you know if you are eligible for the
MIT Affiliate Health Plan. To enroll, please contact the Affiliate
Health Plan Office at 617-253-4371 to schedule an orientation.

Family Members
Family members of covered affiliates are also eligible for one or
both parts of the MIT Affiliate Health Plan. Family members are
defined as spouses,
spousal equivalent partner, unmarried dependent
children under 25 years of age, and dependent children of covered,
unmarried dependents.
If you are purchasing coverage for a spousal equivalent partner, you will need to complete an Affadavit of Spousal Equivalent Partnership form.
