The MIT Student Health Plan is available to all registered MIT
students. The plan offers:
MIT Student Medical Plan:
covers a wide range of services provided at MIT Medical,
including primary care, many medical specialties, 24-hour
urgent care, mental health care, and other services
Enrollment: Registered MIT students are automatically
enrolled in the MIT Student Medical Plan as part of their
tuition.
MIT Student Extended Insurance
Plan: covers inpatient hospitalization, including
the birth of a child, inpatient mental health and substance
abuse treatment, surgical procedures, prescription drugs,
and other benefits.
Enrollment: Since hospital coverage is
mandatory under Massachusetts law, regular, registered MIT
students, and special students taking more than 27 units
are automatically enrolled in the MIT Student Extended Insurance
Plan and billed for the cost. We will cancel coverage and
remove any charges for students who submit a waiver
request and show proof of insurance that meets Massachusetts
requirements.
More detailed information on Massachusetts
requirements may be found on our Waiver FAQ page.
Online Waiver: To request
a waiver, please follow the instructions for our online
waiver process.
If you are unable to use the online form, contact us at stuplan@med.mit.edu.
For fall term, waivers must be submitted no later than
September 30. For spring term, waivers must be submitted
no later than February 28. For summer term, waivers must
be submitted no later than June 30. Please note that
the Summer term waiving period is only for students
registered for the summer term.
If you are not an MIT student you may not complete the waiver on behalf of a student, even if you have an MIT certificate. Each student must complete the online waiver using his or her own certificate.
