Applications for the Fall 2009 training class will be open in late August/early September of 2009. Check back then!

If you've made it this far, hopefully you already know what Medlinks are about. If not, check out our About Us section before applying.

What to expect during training
MedLinks training involves attending a weekend-long retreat, which instructs prospective Medlinks on such topics as relationships, sexual identity, nutrition/wellness, depression, stress, over-the-counter medicines, and more. During training, you will learn about the major issues affecting your peers and how to help peers identify and deal with these issues. The training retreat will take place over Columbus Day Weekend, Saturday, October 11 through Sunday, October 12. To be a Medlink, you must be able to attend the entire retreat, so mark your calendars now!

Another component of Medlinks training involves becoming certified in First Aid and CPR. Training sessions will be offered on several Saturdays and Sundays after the retreat. If you are already First Aid/CPR certified, this requirement is waived.

As you can see, the training requirements are extensive! After training, however, you will be more than adequately prepared to help serve your fellow students.

What to expect after training
Medlinks is one of the most recognized student groups on campus, and we work very hard to keep it that way! Our primary focus is on peer-to-peer care in the dorms; therefore, upon graduation from Medlinks, you will receive a kit filled with over-the-counter (OTC) medications like Tylenol, Sudafed, and more to help treat common ailments in your living group. We also have several Community Health outreach events such as our annual Flu Clinic in the fall, healthy Finals Breakfast at the end of each term, and our annual Dating Auction fundraiser in February. Additionally, in an effort to help Medlinks stay up-to-date on current issues at MIT, we also sponsor Continuing Education events throughout the year, colloquially known as "ConEds." You will be expected to participate in these or one of our many other events as part of your commitment to Medlinks. And hopefully, you'll be having a lot of fun in the process!

So what are you waiting for?!
Apply to be a Medlink right now! If you have any questions, feel free to contact our Membership Coordinator, Paul Baranay, via email. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
