Fiberoptic gyroscopes provide a more reliable and potentially less costly inertial guidance platform than their mechanical counterparts. Due to current manufacturing practice, comprised of intensive, highly skilled manual labor, the low cost potential of these devices is not currently realized, limiting their use especially in commercial applications. It is the objective of this effort to develop new cost-effective automation that will reduce the manufacturing cost of fiberoptic gyroscopes by an order of magnitude.
