The MIT Student Extended Insurance Plan is required for all regular registered students, and for special students who are taking 27 units or more. Students will be automatically enrolled and billed for their individual membership in the Student Extended Insurance for the term that they are registered. If students wish to enroll their spouse (including same sex equivalents) or children, a new enrollment form must be submitted each September to August academic year.
If students choose to waive the Student Extended Plan, they must waive with comparable insurance that meets Massachusetts state requirements. The policy must provide coverage for the specific services required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including limits on deductibles and coinsurance. For more information, see the “Waiver FAQ” at http://web.mit.edu/medical/p-waiver.html. Students must submit a waiver request with their coverage information by the deadline for each academic year. Deadlines are September 30 for the fall term, February 28 for the spring term.
