FSILG Policies

Specific Policies Pertaining to Fraternities, Sororities, and Independent Living Groups

Fraternities, Sororities, and Independent Living Groups [FSILGs] at MIT have been an integral part of the campus community for more than a century and are a vital component in the Institute’s mission as they support its goals of a holistic education. As such, they are partners with the Institute in a mutually supportive educational endeavor. FSILGs at MIT sustain their relationship with a promise to foster responsible, supportive, and ethical members. The fraternity, sorority, and independent living group community promotes the development of leadership skills, scholarship, good citizenship, service to the MIT and neighborhood communities, independence, organizational management, and self-governance, as well as fostering life-long friendships. The contribution the FSILG community adds to the undergraduate experience at MIT includes service to community, cultural and social activities and the ability to develop students who are well-rounded and balanced leaders.

Policies pertaining to the FSILG community and chapter and facility operations are governed by the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association, or Living Group Council as well as the FSILG Office staff and in conjunction with Alumni House Corporation and Advisory Boards. In all cases, adherence to both the letter and the spirit of the rules governing the community is expected from all member organizations and by affiliated individuals.

Advisement of all FSILG organizations, and related organizations shall fall under the advisement responsibilities of the FSILG Office.
