FSILG Policies

Violations

Violations of Institute policies or regulations by an MIT FSILG or their members may lead to disciplinary proceedings by the Division of Student Life, and the respective governing council for the FSILG, or both, and shall follow the options and general procedures outlined by the Office of Student Citizenship at MIT.

Judicial Procedures[back to top]

Under the advisement and direction of the Assistant Dean of Fraternities, Sororities, and Living Groups and Residential Life, the Dean for Student Life, where appropriate, has delegated a major portion of the responsibility for discipline within the FSILG community to a hearing board made up of peers from the FSILG community. Each governing council shall have written policies for Judicial Committee or Standards Board policies and procedures.

Interim Action[back to top]

The Assistant Dean, in consultation with the respective governing council President, may impose an interim action that may include restrictions on an FSILG. These restrictions may be imposed prior to a council hearing. Such action may be taken when the alleged violation is deemed to be egregious and/or involve unsafe behavior.

Failure to meet Housing, Health and Safety requirements and/or submit appropriate licenses, certificates, and documentation shall result in an Interim Action that may include, but are not limited to, loss of Approved Institute Housing, social probation, chapter restrictions, or may result in possible legal action by the host city.

Chapters that default on MIT IRDF loans and/or grants are subject to loss of Good Standing, Approved Institute Housing, and/or Institute Recognition.
