MIT’s Office of Undergraduate Advising and Academic Programming (UAAP) sets a standard of excellence in providing quality, student-centered services to all undergraduates, and specifically to freshmen, that facilitate academic success, social adjustment, and assimilation to the Institute. To achieve that vision, the UAAP offers programming, opportunity for exploration, and access to Institute resources and services that recognize the different needs, diversity, and uniqueness of students at the Institute.  This office is responsible for all freshman programming including Advanced Placement/Transfer Credit processing, Orientation, Academic Advising (including Residence-based Advising), Major Exploration programming, Sophomore Transition Initiatives, Learning Strategies and other academic support. Additionally, the management, operation, and oversight of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) is a UAAP responsibility, and UAAP staff provide support to the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP) as well.
UAAP leads the Holistic Student Experience initiative, one of the priorities identified in the DUE’s Strategic Plan. This theme is intended to articulate a holistic approach to the education of our students, set the standard for undergraduate advising and mentorship, develop programs for student leadership, define collaborative initiatives that facilitate faculty engagement, and support the integration of student life and learning.
