MISTI Global Seed Funds


MISTI Global Seed Fund General Fund

  • For projects in any country that don’t meet the criteria of the other funds
  • Open to all disciplines
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

Greater China Fund for Innovation

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan
  • Colleague(s) in Greater China must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Greater China and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Average award: $30,000

 

MISTI Hayashi Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Japan
  • Japanese colleagues must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Japan and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000 

 

MIT-Belgium - Université catholique de Louvain Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with colleagues at Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium
  • Belgian colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Belgium and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

MIT-Brazil Seed Fund*

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Brazil
  • Brazilian colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Brazil and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

In addition to the general MIT-Brazil Seed Fund, which is open to projects involving any university or research laboratory anywhere in Brazil, additional funds are available for projects through partnerships with FAPESP and FACEPE.

  • MIT-Brazil-FAPESP joint funding: Projects involving collaboration with Brazilian researchers in the state of São Paulo.
  • MIT-Brazil-FACEPE joint funding: Projects involving collaboration with Brazilian researchers in the state of Pernambuco.

Please note on the MISTI GSF application if you are applying to joint funding with any of the above institutions. If so, you must send MISTI a copy of the partner institution’s application form when you submit your MISTI GSF application. Any and all funding requested from the above partner institutions associated with the project should be specified in the application.

MIT-Chile Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Chile (projects with colleagues at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez or the Universidad Diego Portales must apply to those specific seed funds, below).
  • Chilean colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Chile and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

MIT-Chile - Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with colleagues at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile
  • Chilean colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Chile and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Sixty percent of funds available earmarked for projects with an engineering component
  • Maximum award: $30,000 

 

MIT-Chile - Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with colleagues at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile for projects in design, innovation and technology
  • Chilean colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Chile and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

MIT-Chile - Universidad Diego Portales Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with colleagues at Universidad Diego Portales
  • Chilean colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Chile and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

MIT-France Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in France
  • French colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and France and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

MIT-Germany Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Germany
  • German colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Germany and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Preference given to projects in the 2013-2014 priority areas
  • Maximum award: $30,000 

 

MIT-Mexico - CONACYT Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Mexico
  • Mexican colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Mexico nd demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000 

 

MIT-Mexico – Zapopan (Jalisco)

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in the city of Zapopan and the Metropolitan area of Guadalajara. Companies in this region might be included in the proposal.
  • Mexican colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Mexico and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $25,000

 

MIT-Russia Seed Fund

  • For collaboration with universities and research laboratories in Russia
  • Russian colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal
  • Priority given to projects that propose a balanced exchange between MIT and Russia and demonstrate complementarity between the two teams
  • Maximum award: $30,000

 

MIT-Italy Seed Funds
In all cases, Italian colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal

  • MIT-UNIPI Project: For collaboration with Universita di Pisa*     
    • For projects in energy, information and communication technologies and life sciences
    • Maximum award: $23,000
    • Deadline: Spring 2013 - exact date TBA

  • MITOR Project: For collaboration with Politecnico di Torino*
    • Priority given to projects involving PhD students and postdocs in research stays of three months or more
    • Maximum award: $15,000
    • Deadline: Spring 2013 - exact date TBA

  • Roberto Rocca Project: For collaboration with Politecnico di Milano
    • Priority given to projects that focus on the novel use of materials, and mathematical and physical modeling
    • Maximum award: $15,000
    • Deadline: Rolling
