MIT-Brazil Program
MISTI launched the MIT-Brazil Program this fall to connect MIT students and faculty with research and innovation in Brazil. (More about MISTI)
Working with corporations, universities and research institutes, MIT-Brazil will match MIT students with professional and research internships in Brazil. Industries may include energy, software, aeronautics, agriculture and telecommunications. The program will also offer seed funds to faculty for research with Brazilian counterparts.
The second MISTI program in Latin America, MIT-Brazil is the tenth MISTI program created after China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Spain. The program will be co-directed by Ben Ross Schneider, Professor of Political Science, and Richard Locke, Deputy Dean, Sloan School of Management; Alvin J. Siteman (1948) Professor of Entrepreneurship; and Professor of Political Science. For more information, contact program coordinator Karina Xavier at kxavier@mit.edu.

Interview. Sit down with us and tell us your goals for an internship in Brazil. We'll share with you the resources we have at our disposal and discuss possibilities and requirements.

- Two recommendation letters (e-mails ok) from a professor and/or job supervisor
- 1 pg. Personal Statement describing your interest in the Brazil Program & how participation will further your academic and professional development

Program Requirements
(for application to the MISTI-Brazil Summer 2010 program)
- 2 Years of Portuguese (or equivalent)*
Portuguese classes are being offered over IAP and starting in the Spring Semester- check out www.mit.edu/fll for course listings - 1 course on a Brazil-related topic (subject to prior approval by MISTI-Brazil) Any course in any department that contains a strong Brazil component, including courses at Harvard. See, for example, Prof. Ben Ross Schneider’s course in the Political Science Department.
- GPA - B or better (4.0 or better)
- Cultural Training Events (led by MIT-Brazil Program Coordinator, Karina Xavier)
*Equivalent= if you are a native speaker of Spanish, you may take the “Beginning Portuguese for Spanish Speakers” course which will be offered in Spring (n.b.: check the MISTI-Brazil site in the next 2 weeks to see if this course will be available during IAP).
