MIT-Italy Seed Funds
MIT-UNIPI Project*
The MIT-UNIPI Project supports budding research collaborations between faculty and research scientists at MIT and their counterparts at Universita di Pisa.
The fund supports travel, meeting and workshop costs incurred in Italy, including travel to Italy. Colleague(s) at Universita di Pisa must be identified in the proposal. The average award is $23,000.
The deadline for applying to the UNIPI seed fund is Spring 2013, exact date TBA.
MITOR Project*
The MITOR Project supports budding research collaborations between faculty and research scientists at MIT and their counterparts at Politecnico di Torino (POLITO).
Launched in 2009, thanks to the generous support of the Compagnia di San Paolo, the MITOR Project provides more than $200,000 a year in seed funds for faculty collaborations, workshops and research stays at POLITO and MIT for graduate students and postdocs. The Project also provides small grants for MIT students who intern at POLITO labs and spinoffs.
The deadline for applying to the MITOR seed fund is Spring 2013, exact date TBA.
Roberto Rocca Project
The Roberto Rocca Project supports budding research collaborations between faculty and research scientists at MIT and their counterparts at Politecnico di Milano.
Funding is not meant to cover full blown research projects, but only their exploratory phase, after which the PI’s are expected to apply for outside funding. Grants are up to $15,000. Applications should be submitted by an MIT and a Politecnico PI. Only tenure track faculty qualify as PI's. Proposals must be submitted electronically. Collaborations are expected to begin soon after the funding decision is announced.
The MIT-Italy Seed Funds are a part of MISTI Global Seed Funds. All general MISTI Global Seed Funds criteria, application and evaluation procedures apply.
