Getting to Italy.

Welcome to the MIT-Italy network. Through our partners here and abroad, we offer you an extensive range of opportunities in research labs, academia, and industry. You can choose among a variety of different opportunities, including workshops, internships, and research collaborations. Most of the opportunities we offer are custom designed for our applicants. Your role is to tell us about your goals and skills so that we can find your ideal placement.

Who, what, when.

If you are a sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student, or recent alum, you are eligible to participate in MIT-Italy programs. While freshmen are welcome to apply, we can only offer them limited opportunities. Since our internships are custom tailored, we encourage students to apply well ahead of time. Placements work best when planned over a two-year period. We will coordinate your interests with partner universities, research institutions, corporations, and organizations in Italy. We encourage stays of three months or longer so that you develop a deep sense of what it means to live and work in Italy. The longer you stay, the greater opportunity you have to establish a lifelong network of rewarding relationships.

Know your neighbors.

To make the most of your experience, you must be familiar with the Italian language. With two semesters of Italian and participation in our program's introductory seminars and workshops on Italian culture, you will acquire the basic skills to communicate and be productive in the Italian professional and cultural environment.
