Program requirements
Italian Language: We require all our interns to have at least one semester of Italian, and give priority to applicants who go beyond this minimum. For beginners, we strongly recommend the ITALIAN ONE class we offer every IAP at MIT in collaboration with the FL&L department. Students who take this class are able to get into Italian three at Harvard. Enrollment is by lottery and there are usually more than one hundred applicants. Make sure not to miss the lottery deadline and to be enrolled in the MIT-Italy. MIT students can enroll in Italian classes for credit and free at Harvard; or for a fee and not for credit at the Dante Alighieri Society.
Standing at MIT: You must have a grade-point average of 4.0 or higher
Culture course: Interns are very strongly encouraged to take at least one course that introduces them to key cultural, social, and political aspects of Italy and/or Europe. In light of the scarcity of such courses at MIT, we work with you to identify alternative options at Harvard. Students who make the investment have priority access to placements opportunities.
Duration: 3-month summer internship (12 weeks), 6-12 month opportunities available
Training: Prospective interns are required to attend our information and training sessions designed to prepare them for their internships—about eight meetings, mostly in the Spring for Summer interns and in the Fall for IAP interns.
Application Deadline
We accept applications on a rolling basis. However, to maximize their opportunities students should complete their application packages by November 30th.
