The internship program gives students the opportunity to combine their knowledge of Spanish language and culture with their expertise in the fields of engineering, science, management and architecture by working in Mexico.

Requirements to participate:

  1. Status: Be an MIT student (undergrad or grad), visiting student/scholar, or recent alumni.
  2. Language: Have completed Spanish IV at MIT or demonstrate an equivalent level by the start of the internship, if you are not sure of your level contact us: MIT-Mexico
  3. Standing at MIT: You must have a grade-point average of at least 4.0 or better.
  4. Recommendations: You will need to submit two written recommendations.
  5. Take one Spring Course (strongly recommended): Take an MIT or Harvard Course on Mexico or Latin America. MIT courses such as:
    1. 17.905 Political Economy of Development in Mexico (Taking this class is a Priority and strongly recommended for MISTI Mexico participants to take)
    2. 21F.084J Introduction to Latin American Studies
    3. 21F.711 Advanced Spanish Conversation and Composition: Perspectives on Techonolgy and Culture
    4. 21F.739 Twenieth and Twenty-First Century Hispanic and American Literature
    5. 21F.714 Spanish for Bilingual Students
  6. Training sessions: Attend the MIT-Mexico training sessions throughout the spring semester regarding Mexican culture, society, economy and practical issues.

Application Process

  1. Fill the on line application.
  2. Contact the program coordinator Griselda Gomez MIT-Mexico to schedule an interview, you may schedule the interview before the rest of the application is complete:
  3. Submit the following items to the MIT-Mexico Program Coordinator: MIT-Mexico
    • Resume: we need an updated resume.
    • Personal statement: a one page statement of your personal and professional objectives in going to Mexico.
    • Recommendations: we need two written recommendations; at least one has to be from an MIT professor.
    • Official Transcript: send your transcripts to E38 762C
    • Copy of passport

Application Deadline

We accept applications on a rolling basis, but for early placements application packages are due November 30.
