Introduction
The success of MIT-AITI during the past summers has been measured
by the number of students we trained, the quality of work they produced,
and our impact on involved teachers and communities. We have succeeded
in educating over 700 students and nearly 50 teachers. Furthermore,
we have evaluated their understanding of the material presented
through their final projects and examinations. Some of our
outstanding students from the past summers have obtained jobs in
the information technology sector in Kenya.
In the summer of 2006, we intend to train a minimum of 200 students
and 20 local teachers. We are confident that our students would
acquire valuable programming skills. We will measure their knowledge
through examinations as well as community-oriented final projects.
A successful MIT-AITI project in the summer of 2005 would provide
valuable service experience for MIT student interns, and provide
African students with computer programming skills. Furthermore,
it will augment African teacher's knowledge in web development tools,
advance African pedagogy and curriculum development in important
and innovative technologies such as ASP.net and open-source Linux,
and advance our goal of reaching out and impacting communities through
information technology.
