Richard Locke, Alvin J. Siteman Professor of Entrepreneurship and Political Science.

The founder of the MIT-Italy Program, co-founder of the Global E-Lab, and the faculty chair of the MIT Sloan Fellows Program, Richard Locke combines an in-depth understanding of the specificities of the Italian economy and the challenges and opportunities of globalization. Professor Locke teaches courses in Comparative Political Economy, Entrepreneurship and International Management, including the Global E-Lab—where students do real fieldwork on emerging companies, with the active support of teachers and CEO's-- and is currently completing two major projects: a book on “Building Trust in a Rent-Seeking World”--which examines cooperative patterns of economic development in Eastern Germany, Southern Italy and Northeast Brazil-- and an extensive research on “Global Corporate Citizenship,” based on the Nike case.

Serenella Sferza

Serenella Sferza, born and raised in Milan, came to MIT with a Fulbright Fellowship after a Laurea at the Universita’ Statale, and stayed to complete a Ph. D. in Political Science. Dr. Sferza has taught at Washington University and other Us and European Institutions, and published numerous articles on European politics. Sferza joined the MIT-Italy Program shortly after its launching, working to expand its scope through several collaborations with Italian institutions. An instructor at the Department of Political Science, Sferza teaches “Working in the Global Economy,” a core course in the Minor in Applied International Studies.

The MIT-Italy Scientific Committee

The MIT-Italy Program relies on the expertise and advice of numerous MIT scientists regarding exchanges and collaborations with our Italian partners. Since 2002, the Program has been working closely with the MIT-Italy Scientific Committee composed by faculty who have close collaborations with Italian research insitutions and are representative of the MIT research community.
