Description

The motivations of this research are to improve electrical infrastructure from:

  • Static to a dynamic supervision
  • Offline to an online environment
  • Conservative to optimized operation
  • Isolated to coordinated operation

This research seeks to increase the operating efficiency of transmission systems by developing novel real-time detection and smarter control schemes for mitigating dynamic instabilities imposed by aging equipment, renewable integration, long transmission distances from generation sites in Kuwait and Oman, and distributed generation.

Relevance

The potential outcomes of this project will address stability challenges imposed by the Gulf Cooperation Council interconnection in which power can be transferred from distant regions in Kuwait and Oman to Abu Dhabi. Transmission security and reliability of Abu Dhabi in the coming future is the focus.
