Use this checklist to help you with the application process. You can check off steps you have completed.
Please note that the application deadline for all Joint Program fields - except Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (MIT Course 6) - is January 5. If you are applying to EECS, you must complete their application no later than December 15.

Take the GRE early so scores will be available by the application deadline

Take an English Language Proficiency exam. Either the IELTS or TOEFL is required for all non-native English speakers. Test scores must be from within the past two years. IELTS: International English Language Testing System. The minimum score required is 6.0. TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language. The minimum acceptable score for admission to the Joint Program is 577 on the paper-based test, 233 on the computer-based test and 90-91 in the internet-based test. Minimum score for applicants to Course VI (Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) within the Joint Program, is 600 on the paper-based test, 250 on the computer-based test and 100 on the internet-based test.
Investigate and apply for sources of student support

Request a transcript from your college or university
Send transcripts for all degrees earned. You can include the transcript with your application or have the transcript sent directly to the Joint Program. If you mail the transcript along with your application, it should be in a separate sealed envelope.
December
Ask for three recommendations
Submit your application form, along with all supporting documentation, online or to one of the Joint Program offices
January 5
The Joint Program sends out notification of admissions decisions no later than March 31.
If admitted to the Joint Program, you may defer entrance for up to one year without reapplying. Please see our admission deferral policy.
