Congratulations!
Biodiesel@MIT was the winner of GE/mtvU's Ecomagination Challenge. The group will use the $25,000 prize to install and begin operating a biodiesel processor on campus. Biodiesel@MIT extends its congratulations to the other ten finalists and to GE and mtvU for encouraging campus sustainability nationwide. News stories on the Challenge have been published by the MIT Energy Resource Council, the Tech, the Boston Globe, and the MIT Admissions Office.
Details of Biodiesel@MIT's project can be found in the online proposal. For additional information, check out the Online Resources section or email biodiesel-info@mit.edu.
About Biodiesel@MIT
Biodiesel@MIT is a group of MIT students, faculty, and staff whose goal is to install a biodiesel processor on the MIT campus as part of the MIT Energy Initiative. The processor would convert waste vegetable oil from campus dining facilities into biodiesel to be mixed with regular diesel fuel and used in the institute's diesel-powered Tech Shuttles. We estimate that the biodiesel could be used to replace 5,000 gallons of year with potential for expansion.
