The second annual student-organized "MIT Energy Conference: Energy 2.0 - Solving Tomorrow's Energy Challenges ", co-organized by the MIT Energy Club, the MIT Sloan Energy & Environment Club, and the MIT Sloan Venture Capital Club, was held on March 9th and 10th, 2007, at the Kendall Marriott Hotel.

This conference brought 500+ energy industry leaders, investors, researchers, and students together at MIT to discuss practical, multi-disciplinary solutions to the global energy problem.

The conference featured a welcome by MIT President Susan Hockfield and keynote addresses by General Electric CEO, Jeffrey Immelt, Cambridge Energy Research Associates chairman and founder, Daniel Yergin, and Khosla Ventures founder and partner, Vinod Khosla.

The conference also featured six focused topical energy panels exploring key technology, policy, and business aspects of the global energy problem:

  • Emerging Biofuels: Which pathways will enable scale?
  • US Climate Policy: What should it look like?
  • Solar Power: A path to grid parity?
  • Unconventional Oil: Enhancing Energy Security in a carbon-constrained world?
  • Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrids: Driving towards grid powered transport?
  • Wind Power at Scale: Getting its own slice of the pie?

Also part of the conference was the "MIT - New England Energy Showcase" which highlighted some of the most exciting energy research currently underway at MIT (details).
