Join us as we travel scenic roads to the historic Western Massachusetts Town of Deerfield, nestled in the Pioneer Valley. Our first stop will be at the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens. Marvel at the lush tropical butterfly garden inside a 4,000 square foot conservatory with over 800 native and tropical butterflies! In June 1916, MIT moved from Boston's Copley Square to its current location on the banks of the Charles River, an occasion that was marked by three full days of festivities enjoyed by alumni, faculty, students, and visitors. This exhibit documents those events, and celebrates the people who designed MIT's new home, those who built it, and those who raised funds for its construction. Curator Nora Murphy will share some of the stories she learned about the "New Technology" while preparing the exhibit and talk about the people who made it come to fruition.
