Hello KCF! We (your exec team) thought it would be a cool idea if our
fellowship read through the same material in our daily devotionals over the
Winter Break and IAP. If you already have something going with your bible
reading, that's great---this is by no means a required thing.
There are two main reasons we thought this might be helpful for you. The
first is simply to give you a structure to use to help you keep disciplined
over the break. If you're a typical MIT student, you'll probably be headed
home joyfully celebrating the end of classes, spending many hours in bed (as
if to make up for what you lost during the term) and eating copious amounts
of food. And if you're like most of us, you probably want to spend most of
your time just doing nothing. And though you could be
spending that much more time with the Lord, you'd really rather just sleep.
But, in fact, you could be missing out on a lot that God wants to do with
you. So we thought that having a structure like this in place would help
us all have a restful---but not lazy--vacation time. To this end, we've put
together a QT calendar with passages almost every day of the week. You'll
notice there is one day missing each week. That's simply a "grace" day
where those of us who've fallen behind can catch up easily.
The second motivation behind this comes down to preparation and
equipping. KCF is looking ahead to an exciting season of outreach,
starting right away in IAP with some risky seeker studies (aka GIGs, JIGs,
IBDs) and increased support all around for your relational outreach
ministry. Though much of this will rely on faith in God, we will also want
to be equipped in our knowledge and understanding of the basics of the
gospel message. To this end, we have chosen passages out of Romans and
John. Romans gets back to the basics about the faith, and in John we get to
go right back to the source: Jesus himself. Of course, these passages
aren't just things to study so that you can explain it to others. Don't
read them with out expecting to be changed yourself!

The sections and section headings were taken out of the "NIV Quiet Time
Bible" printed by InterVarsity Press (IVP). If you have one of these
bibles, you'll also find some questions to think about before and after each
section. You can also find more information in the front about how to read
the bible, how to have a quiet time, suggestions for prayer and journaling,
etc. Go to it, and have a great vacation!
