  • Want to look those passages up online? Cut & paste the reference into the search boxes at this website or this website.
  • RBC Booklet: What is Worship?
  • Matt Redman's web site - articles from a London Bible College prof.
  • James B. Torrance, Worship, Community and the Triune God of Grace, IV Press, 1997 - Recommended by Sundee Fraizer, seems to unpack the theology of New Covenant / Trinitarian worship.
  • Andy Park, To Know You More, IV Press, 2002 - Recommended by James Choung, seems more pertinent to worship leaders.
  • But I'd personally start with the above scripture refs.

Talk: What is Prayer? by . "Prayer is communion with God." Danny recommends the following helpful books for prayer novices such as himself.

  • God. The Bible. The book of Psalms is particularly helpful.
  • Bacovcin, Helen (trans), Ciszek, Walter. The Way of a Pilgrim & The Pilgrim Continues His Way. New York: Doubleday, 1992. The story of an unknown 18th century Russian peasant who struggled to practice "prayer without ceasing." [fast read]
  • Finney, Charles G. Lectures on Revival. Minneapolis, MN: Bethany House Publishers, 1989. Modified edition of the original published in 1835. Make special note of chapters 4-8. [hard core, intense]
  • Foster, Richard. Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home. New York: Harper San Francisco, 1992.
  • Johnstone, Patrick & Mandryk, Jason. Operation World, 6th ed. Waynesboro, GA: Paternorster USA, 2001. [gives you something to focus on while "at the well"]
  • Chadwick, Henry (trans), Saint Augustine. Saint Augustine - Confessions. New York: Penguin Putnam Inc., 1961. The autobiography of the 4th century church father, written in the form of a prayer.
  • Saint Dominic. The Nine Ways of Prayer. A 12-13th century work dealing with the position of your body in prayer. I can't find this in print anywhere but you can get the info online.
  • Cohen, J.M. (trans), Teresa of Avila. The Life of Saint Teresa of Avila by Herself. ["by herself" = it's an autobiography]. New York: Penguin Putnam Inc., 1957. The autobiography of a 16th century Spanish saint. Make special note of chapters 11-22.
  • Pray! Magazine. A bimonthly publication coming from a very white, middle class, culturally isolated Evangelical perspective with occasional and insightful and/or useful articles.

Prayer Team presentation: North Korea by and . The presentation is available in PowerPoint format. They outline the following things you can do.

  • 1. Inform yourself and others: chosunjournal.com worldmag.com snkr.org (Please sign the UN petition)
Full text of testimonies given in the House of Representatives: Lee Youn
  • 2. Contact your local congressmen, the president and the UN:
You can find sample letters and numerous contact info here.
Also, send encouraging letters to Congressmen who have already spoken out for the North Koreans: Sen. Ted Kennedy, Sen. Sam Brownback, (Kansas!) Rep. Joseph Pitts (anyone from Lancaster and Chester Counties, PA?)
  • 3. Donate to charities that will directly monitor whether their aid actually reaches the needy.
These (insanely brave) people smuggle bibles into North Korea, send Bible page covered balloons over the border, have been helping refugees quietly for 15 years.

Talk: The Holiness of God by . Susan recommends the following book: The Holiness of God by R.C. Sproul. A very readable and intelligent dissertation on the meaning of Holy, encounters with Holiness, and what it means for us to try to be holy. Highly recommended for a better understanding of the Old Testament God and how He's the same as the New Testament God.
