Urban Plunge (IVCF New England) - One great first step to allowing yourself to be impacted is to check out urban issues right here in the heart of Boston during the week of MIT's spring break with the urban plunge. Contact a staff worker if interested.

Global Urban Trek (IVCF) - The Global Urban Trek provides a great opportunity to experience first-hand the realities of urban slums around the world by living and serving in them for a few weeks during the summer. The goal of these projects is to help students learn how their particular gifts and majors might be used to serve people in the slums in the future.

Servant Partners - Servant Partners is an organization committed to holistic church planting and community transformation among the world's urban poor. They provide international and domestic internships and have teams ministering at sites around the world. Since graduating from MIT (and ACF) in '03, Dave has been serving with Servant Partners in Bangkok, Thailand. Companion to the Poor by Viv Grigg (The testimony of one urban missionary who served in the slums of Manila, Phillipines for nearly 10 years. A very inspiring read.)
Good News About Injustice by Gary Haugen (By the president of the International Justice Mission. A great introduction to how God is affected by injustice, how he chooses to work through us to fight injustice, and how we can go about doing so.)
Waking the Dead by John Eldredge (A critically important book on being aware of the spiritual warfare around us and the crucial role we have to play.) Journey to the Center of the City by Randy White (By the director of Intervarsity urban projects. His testimony and call to students to relocate to the inner-city after graduation.)
Empowering the Poor by Robert Linthicum (The book on Christian community organizing. Written from extensive experience in urban centers in the U.S. and abroad. Very practical.)
City of God, City of Satan by Robert Linthicum (A thorough, yet easily readable book on the theology of urban ministry.)
The Urban Christian by Ray Bakke (The autobiography and testimony of an urban pastor in inner-city Chicago.)
A Theology as Big as the City by Ray Bakke (Great for Bible studies, lots of diagrams. A simpler, less thorough counterpart to City of God, City of Satan.)
Cry of the Urban Poor by Viv Grigg (Snap-shot stories from around the world. Viv's vision for how to disciple the slums of the world's cities and raise up a missionary movement to do so.)
Costly Mission by Michael Duncan (A sobering counterpart to Companion to the Poor.)
Perspectives on the World Chrisian Movement, ed. by Ralph Winter and Steven Hawthorne (A great course and a great reader! Opens your mind to a myriad of new ideas, what God has been doing, what he is doing, and how you can play a part in his mission in strategic and culture-wise ways.)

Most of these books are probably available online everywhere, some even through IVP. Some of them, however, might only be available at www.worldvisionresources.com. If you want to list some reccommended reading, but not all, I've listed them in approximate order of importance/accessibility to the student audience.
