Spouses and Partners
Spouses and partners of MIT students and employees may request an MIT Spouse/Partner Card via our website (https://web.mit.edu/mitcard/spouse/). Requests MUST be submitted by the official appointee (student, employee, or affiliate) prior to visiting the Card Office. Once the web request has been submitted, a notification to visit the MIT Card Office in the basement of the Stratton Student Center (W20-021) will be sent. Please note that the MIT Card Office does not issue Spouse/Partner ID's to spouses/partners of Alumni, Retirees, Contractors/Vendors, or Temporary Employees. Children, siblings, and parents of any MIT community member are NOT eligible to receive an MIT ID Card.

DLC \ Unofficial Members of the MIT Community
[NOTE: For the purpose of this policy, “DLC Sponsored ” (Department, Lab, Center Sponsored) is defined as a member of the MIT community who IS NOT a regular employee, student, retiree, alumni, spouse/partner of an MIT student, spouse/partner or an MIT regular employee, and DOES NOT have a Human Resources record (as a regular employee or other unpaid position, e.g. Research Affiliate). Examples of unofficial members of the MIT community include contractors, vendors, or temporary employees. This procedure is specifically designed to accommodate non-MIT persons who have a valid need to get an MIT ID Card and shall not apply to any person who can obtain an MIT ID Card through the normal channels.]

In order to sponsor an individual for an official MIT DLC Sponsored MIT ID card, the MIT Card Office must receive an official On-line ID Card Request Form completed by an MIT Administrative Officer or an official designee as appointed by an Administrative Officer or Department Head. A listing of Administrative Officers and/or official designees is kept at the MIT Card Office. The sponsored person must bring one form of photo ID (i.e., passport, or US government issued ID, such as a driver's license) with them when they visit the MIT Card Office in order to obtain a DLC Sponsored MIT ID Card. The maximum expiration date that is available for this type of appointment is one year from the date that the official on-line request form is received by the MIT Card Office.

Procedure Guidelines:

* To find out who your authorized Administrative Officer or official designee is, please contact the Card Office at mitcard@mit.edu;

* If your department does not currently have an Administrative Officer or official designee on file with the MIT Card Office, your department Head may email the MIT Card Office directly at mitcard@mit.edu and request that we add a person(s) to our listing of authorized individuals;

* The official On-line MIT ID Request Form for DLC Sponsored individuals is available at: https://web.mit.edu/mitcard/DLC/ (MIT Certificates are required).

* The MIT Card Office reserves the right to deny requests that are incompletely or improperly submitted (no photocopied signatures, please.)

Starting on January 1, 2008, DLC Sponsored cards will cost $10.

ID Card Renewals for Expired ID Cards

If your ID card has an expiration date printed on the card, your MIT ID Cards become inactive on that date. With the exception of DLC card holders, visiting students, and spouses, individuals may renew their ID card by visiting the MIT Card Office in the basement of the Stratton Student Center (W20-021). DLC card holders must contact their department sponsor in order to initiate the renewal process. Spouse cards may only be renewed after the MIT staff member's or student's ID is renewed. Visiting students must check in with the International Student Office prior to getting their ID renewed.

It is usually possible to renew MIT ID's in advance of the date printed on the ID Card.
