Access |
If you live on campus, your MIT ID can be programmed to give you access to your residence. Please contact your House Manager when you move into your residence to receive access to your building. The Card Office does not provide dorm access. Only residents are given access to their dormitory using the MIT Card. Nonresidents must use the campus phone at the building's entrance to request access from the front desk or dorm security (after desk hours). Team Nightwatch and Dorm Patrol provide security at night and can readily deactivate a lost/stolen card. If your card is rejected by the card reader consistently, please contact the House Manager of your building, and he/she will contact the Card Office. Office/Laboratory Access All MIT ID cards have basic building access privileges. Basic access includes limited access (usually the first floor or after-hours access) to the following buildings:
If your department requires that you have access to other secure spaces, you must contact the gatekeeper for the area you are trying access. For a listing of gatekeepers, feel free to email the Security and Emergency Management Office (security-office@mit.edu). Please note that building access privileges are usually cleared from the system soon after an ID expires. In order to have these privileges transfer to your new card automatically, make sure to get your renewal card within two weeks of the previous card's expiration date. TechCASH Accounts The TechCASH account allows you to use your MIT ID to purchase food and services at campus food locations, vending machines, Dominos Pizza, laundry facilities, Copy Tech locations, and other approved off campus merchants. If you are an MIT employee or student, you can apply for a TechCASH account online at http://web.mit.edu/mitcard/techcash.html. Athletics Access - Department of Athletics Your MIT ID allows you to use Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreational (DAPER) facilities. Students may use the facility for free once the ID card is activated. MIT employees, Alumni and other members of the MIT Community must pay a fee for access. Please bring your MIT ID to the Zesiger Center's Main Customer Service Desk (W35 Main Lobby) during operational hours to initiate membership. For more information, please visit the Athletics home page or call x2-3690. Library Services Your MIT ID allows you to use the services offered by MIT Libraries, although some limitations may apply. To find out about the services available to you, visit any of the MIT Libraries or go to http://libraries.mit.edu. Parking and T-Pass Offices Services You may request campus parking and/or take advantage of the subsidized T-Pass program with your MIT ID, although certain limitations apply. For additional information, please visit the Parking and Transportation Office (W20-022-105) or contact the Parking and T-Pass Office (W20-022) or call x3-7276. MIT
