Identification
Your MIT ID proves that you are a member of the MIT Community.

Dormitory Access - Office of Residential Life
If you live on campus, your MIT ID can be programmed to give you access to your residence. Please contact your House Manager when you move into your residence to receive access to your building.

Every dormitory on campus has been outfitted with Software House card readers on the entry doors. This is in compliance with Housing's policy of maintaining locked buildings 24 hours a day.

Only residents are given access to their dormitory using the MIT Card. Nonresidents must use the campus phone at the building's entrance to request access from the front desk or dorm security (after desk hours). Team Nightwatch and Dorm Patrol provide security at night and can readily deactivate a lost/stolen card.

If your card is rejected by the card reader consistently, please contact the House Manager of your building, and he/she will contact the Card Office.

Office/Laboratory Access

If your department requires that you have access to secure spaces, they will let us know and we will activate your MIT ID for access to those spaces. You do not need to visit the Card Office again - we will activate your MIT ID remotely.
