A host of energy challenges depend on advanced deep-subsurface science and technology, including ultra deep water environments. A partial list includes oil exploration and production, carbon dioxide sequestration, advanced nuclear waste disposal concepts, engineered geothermal systems and methane hydrates. The technology tools are equally varied and include advanced drilling, imaging, modeling, robotics and others.
