Karl Reid Karl
W. Reid is the Executive Director of MITE2S. He graduated
from MIT in 1984 with a BS in Materials Science and Engineering and received
his MS in Electronic Materials in 1985. He is currently pursuing
a Doctorate in Education on a part-time basis. While at MIT, Karl served as
National Chairperson of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
As an undergraduate student, he founded and directed the NSBE High School
Ambassador Program, which exposed Boston-area 7-12 grade students to careers
in engineering. Karl is a recipient of the distinguished Karl Taylor Compton
Award, and was appointed to the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor
Society. Karl returned to MIT in 1998
after 12 years in the software industry, where he held positions in systems
engineering, systems consulting, and product marketing and management
for several companies including IBM.
Prof. Cardinal Warde Professor
Cardinal Warde has served as MITE2S Faculty Director
since 1997. He joined the faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer
Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1974, where he
is presently Professor of Electrical Engineering. He graduated from the
Stevens Institute of Technology (with high honor) in 1969, and received
the M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in physics in 1971 and 1974, respectively,
from Yale University. Dr. Warde's current research
activities are centered around the development of: (1) optoelectronic
smart-pixel processors and displays, (2) photorefractive materials and
devices for optical information processing, (3) membrane-mirror-based
spatial light modulators for large-screen projection displays and infrared
scene projectors and (4) novel all-optical approaches to high resolution
adaptive wavefront phase compensation for imaging and communication. He
has published over one hundred technical papers on optical materials,
devices and systems, and is the holder of ten patents on spatial light
modulators, displays and optical processing systems. Dr. Warde is a fellow of the
Optical Society of America, and a member of both the Institute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers, and the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation
Engineers. He is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Optron Systems,
Inc., a company engaged in the development and manufacture of helmet-mounted
and large-screen projection displays. He is also on the boards of a number
of companies engaged in the manufacture of portable computers, and optical
instruments.
Sandra Tenorio Sandra
Tenorio joined us in November 2002 from the Headquarters of the
Laboratory for Nuclear Science where, among her countless other administrative
responsibilities, she also co-ran the successful Lattice 2002 Conference
this past summer. In addition, Sandy is no stranger to undergraduate and
pre-college student contact. Before joining LNS, she spent four years
with the Department of Athletics with responsibility for the Intramural
Sports Program and the MIT Summer Day Camp. Sandy also speaks Spanish
fluently, and has a reputation for her warmth, efficiency, and skill.
