Design Contest '99

"No Man's Land"

Working in teams of 3, the students have designed and built remotely controlled machines to compete in this year's contest. The playing field: multilevel regions for each competitor separated by "no man's land." The object of the game: collect large yellow balls and get rid of small orange balls, most of which start out in the no man's land. Scores are determined by where the balls rest at the end of the 1 minute contest. Balls in the no man's land do not yield any points.

All machines compete against 2 randomly selected opponents. The 8 teams with the highest individual scores move on to the semifinals. From that point on it's a single elimination tournament (highest score in each round wins and moves ahead).

Scoring:

+6

Large balls in player's own bin

+3

Large balls on player's own side

-1

Small balls on player's own side

-2

Small balls in player's own bin
