MIT GCF Vision Statement

Growing in Knowledge

GCF is committed to the ongoing development of faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Through the disciplines of Bible study, prayer, and worship, we seek to become more Christ-like in all areas of our lives. Through small group Bible studies, prayer groups, large group speakers, involvement with local churches, retreats, and training opportunities, we strive to meet graduate students wherever they are in their spiritual journeys and to challenge them to continued growth and development.

Living in Faith

Scripture tells us that Christ's authority extends to all areas of life. We encourage each other to think critically about how to integrate our faith and our lives. While our academic disciplines shy away from the reality of God, as Christians we strive to acknowledge this reality and its fundamental ramifications on our work. Through large group speakers and special interest groups, we consider the intersection of our faith with our studies and all our pursuits, and seek to gain the knowledge and skills needed to engage our community on these issues.

Loving one Another

As Christian graduate students, we are called to live out Christ's love as a community of believers. Our fellowship with one another is a consequence of our fellowship with God, and not a thing of itself. Through our activities we strive to develop friendships which serve as a source of encouragement and a reminder of God's grace during the often stressful journey through graduate school. We also seek ties with the larger graduate Christian community in the Boston area and the undergraduate Christian community here at MIT.

Proclaiming the Gospel

We believe that God cares about the MIT community. We encourage each other to reach out to non-Christian friends and colleagues. As a large group we sponsor lectures featuring speakers from Boston's rich and varied academic community. These lectures focus on topics designed to engage the academic community in meaningful discussion with Christian scholars. In addition, we seek opportunities to serve the physical and emotional needs of others in our local communities on a regular basis, both as individuals and as a corporate body. Through these activities we proclaim Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, to the community around us.
