*********** Summary: A new MIT student buries himself in his studies, seeking to do well to satisfy his own pride and selfish ambition. When he fails an exam, he feels his whole life is shattered. A helpful GCF member meets the student and assures him that God still loves him. He reminds the misguided student that we are meant to glorify God in all things--in our studies as well as our personal relationship with God and with others. ********** *Scene I: (Mike at desk, studying for an exam) Mike: (praying) "God, help me to do well on the exam tomorrow, so that I can maintain my flawless 5.0 GPA and so that I can get the highest grade in the class. Then, everyone at MIT will think I'm the smartest person. Amen! " Mike: Okay, gotta study...only I"m so tired...(falls asleep). (lights go off, then on, indicating next morning) Alarm goes off. Mike realizes he is late for class. He packs his books in a hurry, then runs off to take the exam. *Scene II: (in classroom, Professor Flitwick in front, several students already seated. Mike runs to his desk just as the Professor is passing out the exams.) Same lines we already practiced. Idea is to illustrate the exam is hard for MIke, but the other students seem to be doing okay. *Scene III: Professor Flitwick hands back exams, each one marked with a big red letter indicating Grade. ("Good job Ms. Collins, you get an A...Pretty good Mr. Hastings, you get a B" When he comes to Mike, he gives MIke a paper with a big fat "F-" on it). Students file out of classroom, MIke is left staring at his paper on his desk. Mike: I think I'm gonna be sick! *Scene IV: Mike gets up and wanders around. Runs into Tony, who he ran into at GCF 2 weeks before. Tony remembers Mike from the first GCF social, but hasn't seen him since. He asks Mike how he is doing. MIke: Man, since I met you I've been working 7 days a week studying for my classes and doing my 5 research projects! I locked myself in my room every day from early morning to late nite doing work. But this morning I just found out I failed my test! My whole life is over! Tony: Mike! Don't you know God still loves you, no matter what grades you get? The most important thing is to continue loving God back, and glorifying him even in the tough times. Remember, Jesus said: "What good is it to gain the whole world if you lose your soul?" Mike: Well, I guess you are right. Hey, that reminds me, one of the test questions talked about the world... Tony: What class? Scene V: (as we practiced last nite, Tony then finds out he has taken the class before, offers mike suggestions, then Mike and Tony decide to eat lunch at the food trucks. Skit proceeds as before...with the cool food truck food analogy... =) -mike ******** By: Aaron Kirtley Mike Neely Tony Evans
