Abstract for Professor Ian Hutchinson's talk on April 2, 2004

The interaction of science and faith has most popularly been portrayed for over 100 years as Warfare. This characterization, perhaps plausible as a competition between world views, and certainly a convenient simplification for rabble rousers in both camps, is a travesty of the logical and historical relationships that actually exist between these areas of life. Drawing on experience during a career in applied physics combined with Christian commitment, service and witness, these talks will explore a more subtle understanding of the science-faith relationship. A more apt metaphor for the dynamic but constructive tensions between them might be found in a traditional marriage and evoked by the word Wedlock.
