Come Play for MITCompeting in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), MIT is counted among the top teams in New England. MIT has consistently been one of the top 5 teams in the New England East Region. As an NCAA Division III program, MIT offers a competitive varsity team which plays its home games on the Jack Barry Onmi-Turf field. MIT also uses a grass practice field, a weight room, and indoor hockey facilities for training - all available on campus just yards from the beautiful Charles River in Cambridge. Although MIT does not offer athletic scholarships as a Division III institution, a financial aid package is available to assist all students who are accepted to MIT. Beginning in late August with a two week training camp, the fall season consists of approximately 17 games, including our conference championship, and culminates with the NCAA or ECAC post-season tournaments. Practices are held from 5-7 p.m. with generally two games a week - home games are played at night under the lights on the turf, and any long distance traveling for away games is limited to the weekends whenever possible. The Johnson Athletic Center indoor facility allows players to continue their training by playing indoor hockey during the off season if they so choose. Many students wonder if it's possible to play sports and study successfully at MIT. A glance at our roster will show you that many student athletes play more that one sport and have achieved at the highest level - both on the field and in the classroom. Deanna Lentz '06 was named to the 2002 and 2003 All-Conference teams, and while Lauren Tsai '04 and Noelle Kanaga '06 earned All-Conference honors in 2003. Tiffany Kanaga '04, Tara Sainath '04, Mandy Smith '04 and Tsai '04 were all named to the 2002 Newmac All-Academic Team. Kanaga, Sainath, Smith and Tsai were all named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association 2002 Division III National Academic Squad. MIT is committed to providing student-athletes the opportunity to continue their athletic career without infringing upon their academic schedule. Our practice and game schedules complement your class schedule, so you do not have to make a choice between the best academics and outstanding athletic experiences.
