Welcome to the MIT High School Research Program!

The MIT High School Research Program (MIT HSRP) is dedicated to providing unique and rewarding research experiences at MIT for dedicated, academically-talented high school students. Students will be involved in cutting-edge research, investigating questions to which the answers are unknown. Students work for one semester with a scientist at MIT, learning about a field of study in depth, making predictions, and testing original hypotheses. Students are encouraged to use their projects to participate in local and national science competitions, where they may win honors and college scholarship money.

Students will:

  • -Study a particular field of science in depth
  • -Observe
  • -Make predictions
  • -Carefully collect data
  • -Analyze and interpret results
  • -Draw conclusions
  • -Present their findings to others in the program, parents, and teachers
  • -Observe first-hand the work of professional researchers
  • -Learn to think critically and independently
  • -Gain academic guidance from undergraduates involved with the MITHSRP and their research mentors
