Rock Climbing
"Warning! Climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger
of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be
aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own
actions and involvement."
Rock climbing is one of the sports either hated or loved. Of those who
try it, quite a few quit after the first time. Those who continue generally
find themselves drawn more into the sport. College may be the best time
to begin rock climbing, just because many experienced people are around
and willing to teach. MITOC itself organizes a few beginner climbing trips
each year, but those trips are only a tiny fraction of the overall climbing
activity. However, climbing classes present a good opportunity to learn the basics
, and meet potential mentors or partners for the future. If you
want the latest news, the best bet is to speak to someone in the office.
The Outing Club also maintains archives of information for all levels of
climbers. The climbing resources page
has various information that may be useful to climbers.
We've also compiled an extensive list of climbing areas
around the northeast. The Boston Rocks book published by the Outing
Club is available at various outdoors stores in the Boston area.
All the information regarding climbing trips is sent to the climbing mailing
list. Everyone is welcome to subscribe to this list - there you can hear about trips and announce your own.
