Enter MIT’s Gateway to Professional Education

MIT’s Professional Education Programs office (PEP), organized under the School of Engineering in 2002, provides continuing education courses, short courses, internet-based programs, and lifelong learning opportunities for science and engineering professionals at all levels. PEP offerings are taught by faculty from across the Institute.

Some programs have a long history, others are fresh concepts delivered via new media. Each year, 30-40 professionals take regular MIT courses for one or more semesters through the Advanced Study Program. The Professional Institute draws more than 600 participants to campus to attend some 40 short courses offered primarily in the summer. Organizations engage PEP in developing Custom Programs that range from a day to a year-long sequence of sessions, on or off campus. MIT World presents free, online videos of significant MIT lectures, which are used by universities, companies, and individuals to stay current with new discoveries. In 2006, PEP launched the Midcareer Acceleration Program. This innovative, part-time offering helps talented professionals prepare for career reentry.

Some PEP courses offer credits, certificates, and CEUs. Learn more about degree programs through the Admissions Office. Other MIT offices handle some specialized education programs.
