ASP Fellows are registered MIT students. Tuition covers access to all regular facilities and services, including libraries, career services, campus computing, athletic facilities, and events.
Fellows should secure sponsorship or funding before applying because no financial aid is available through MIT. Fellows may sponsor themselves and pay their own tuition; however, verification of funds must be presented with the application. Payment is due prior to registration day.
Other costs
There is a $125 Student Life fee each semester, which covers sports center membership and other resources. Fellows must have health insurance valid in Massachusetts. Coverage through MIT costs approximately $600 to $850 per semester for an individual and $1,800 to $2,550 for a family per semester.
Fellows are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks and any other materials required for courses.
Living expenses
Typical monthly living expenses for MIT graduate students are $1,700 to $2,700 per month ($7,000 to $11,000 per semester). Expenses may be higher depending on living arrangements, lifestyle, and number of family members. Rent is frequently the largest single expense. For example, a two-bedroom apartment in Cambridge rents for $1,600 to $2,000 or more per month.
