Where Is Your Competition Spending the Summer?
Professional Institute (PI) courses welcome managers and specialists, engineers, scientists, and technical staff, as well as generalists such as consultants, marketing executives, and entrepreneurs. Each participant gains a competitive edge that applies to real-world challenges and business goals. Let MIT help you stay ahead of the competition.

Application
All prospective participants must complete an on-line application for admission. Applications are accepted beginning several months in advance of the course, and individuals may apply early to reserve a place. Admission is on a space-available basis. Links to applications are found on the course description page. See Courses by Date or Courses by Topic for links to the course description pages.
Admission
There are no general admission requirements; however, the Professional Institute reserves the right to select applicants whose qualifications and experience suggest they will benefit most.
Visas
The MIT Professional Institute follows the U.S. State Department guidelines, which state that participants in PI programs, if they require a visa, need a tourist visa, not a student visa. Please consult the U.S. State Department to determine whether or not you need a visa. When applying for a visa, applicants should use their acceptance letter as their letter of invitation and remember that the visa application process typically takes several months. Applicants are highly encouraged to start the visa application process as soon as they have been accepted to a PI course. The most recent guidelines can be obtained from the local U.S. Embassy or Consulate or the U.S. State Department.
Tuition
Tuition varies by course but you can expect to pay $500 - $900 per day or $1,200 to $4,200 per course. In general, tuition does not include meals or housing. Full tuition is due within 30 days of the invoice date or on receipt of invoice if admission is less then 30 days prior to program start date. The Institute reserves the right to cancel a registrant's admission if payment is not received by the specified date.
Scholarships
A few courses offer a limited number of partial-tuition scholarships. These partial scholarships will NOT cover travel or living expenses. Please refer to the course description regarding availability. Scholarship requests are submitted by email to the Professional Institute and should include your qualifications, objectives for taking the course, and reasons for requesting a scholarship. Please note that a course application must be submitted before a scholarship request will be considered.
Group Discounts
Multiple registrants applying together from one company and enrolling in the same course are eligible for a group discount upon request. Groups of 2 to 5 receive a 10% discount, while groups of 6 or more receive 15% off tuition. Contact the Professional Institute with the names of group members in order to be considered for the discount. All applications must be submitted before any discount can be applied. Requests for a group discount must be received prior to the course start date.
ILP Discounts
Employees from MIT Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) member companies are eligible for a 10% tuition discount. To receive the discount, contact your Industrial Liaison Officer at MIT for the discount code. This code should be entered in the field for promotional codes at the top of the course application form. Don't know whether you're an ILP member? Check the member list at ilp-www.mit.edu, where you will also find a list of Industrial Liaison Officers.
In cases where more than one discount is applicable, only the largest discount will be applied.
Cancellations, Transfers, and Refunds
Applicants who must cancel their participation may be eligible for a full or partial refund. Cancellations must be submitted in writing (email is acceptable) and will be assessed as follows once received at MIT:
- Cancellations received more than 30 days prior to the program are subject to a cancellation fee of $40.
- Cancellations received 15-29 days prior to the program are subject to a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the program tuition.
- Cancellations received fewer than 15 days prior to the program are subject to a cancellation fee equal to 100% of the program tuition.
If the registrant does not appear for the program, full tuition will be charged. No refund of tuition will be made to those who arrive late or leave before completing a program in which they have been registered.
Requests to transfer to another Professional Institute program will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any transfer requests received fewer than 15 days prior to the program will be subject to a transfer fee equal to 25% of the program fee.
If you are unable to attend a course for which you have registered, you may contact the Professional Institute to request a transfer to another participant within the same company. The substitute participant must submit a new application form.
Programs are occasionally cancelled because faculty are unavailable or enrollment is not sufficient to run the course. The Professional Institute strives to announce cancellations at least four weeks in advance. Tuition will be refunded, but PI is not liable for travel expenses.
Payment Methods
