More FAQs about Academic Planning
How do I know if a course is right for me?
PI courses vary in their content, teaching methods, level, and approach. Carefully review the course information page, which includes a description of course content, objectives, format (lecture, laboratory work, group work), and level of difficulty. If you are still unsure about whether a course is right for you, please contact the Professional Institute.
Who teaches Professional Institute courses?
PI courses are taught by MIT faculty and distinguished lecturers who have made significant contributions to their fields - and in some cases invented them. Course descriptions provide additional detail on lecturers.
What courses are available?
The Professional Institute offers more than 40 courses ranging from two to six days in length. Subject areas include biotechnology, computing, networks, data and modeling analysis, marketing, energy, physics, lasers, high-speed imaging, nano and micro technology, mechanical design, system engineering, transportation, and more.
Are there prerequisites or advance reading materials?
Most courses do not have prerequisites and do not require advance reading. Specific requirements, if any, are listed in the course description.
Are credits offered?
The Professional Institute offers CEUs to participants and, at the end of the program, each participant receives an MIT certificate of completion. If you are interested in earning MIT academic credit, consider the MIT Advanced Study Program.
Can I apply this course to my professional training requirements?
Each course is designed to meet MIT’s high academic standards. Many organizations will apply CEUs or an MIT certificate to training or certification requirements. Please consult the relevant organization for their specific requirements.
