Postdocs and the Office of the Vice President for Research

While primary responsibility for postdoctoral appointments lies in MIT’s departments, labs, centers, institutes and schools, the central oversight of postdoctoral affairs is housed in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Associate Provost (part of the Office of the Provost). Dana Bresee Keeth serves as project coordinator for postdocs on behalf of the office. The office works closely with the postdoc-led MIT Postdoctoral Association to provide resources, information, and professional development seminars, and sponsor social events. Your ideas, questions and involvement are encouraged.

A Faculty Postdoctoral Advisory Committee (FPAC), now in the planning stages, will include the governing members of the MIT Postdoctoral Association, the VPR, and several other faculty members. The committee will be well positioned to provide advice in response to issues raised by the PDA and to help implement postdoc-related improvements at MIT. This new structure replaces the former Postdoctoral Advisory Council (PAC).

The MIT Postdoctoral Association (PDA) is a new postdoc-led organization with the goal of providing support for nearly 1300 postdoctoral trainees in over 50 different MIT departments, laboratories, centers and programs. The PDA officers and committee chairs and any other interested postdocs meet monthly.
