Talk to a Postdoc

The following Postdoctoral Scholars at MIT have kindly provided the following information so that it may be accessible to members of the MIT community as well as prospective applicants. They have shared such information in the hopes of being able to reply to reasonable inquiries and to get to meet individuals who share similar interests. We hope to interconnect, strengthen and enrich the diverse communities of MIT.

Any individual listed may be contacted by writing an email to the tag that appears under the person’s name, followed by the expression “@mit.edu,” which must be added to all such tags. We encourage all parties who initiate and carry out interactions to please be respectful. Participants look forward to replying to emails that are friendly and appropriate, whenever possible.

We at the Postdoc Advisory Council encourage you to use this list, and we warmly thanks all participants. Go ahead! Talk to a Postdoc!

I am interested in several problems within the fields of Computational Neuroscience, Signal Processing and Computational Biology / Bioinformatics. Within Computational Neuroscience, I am focusing on trying to understand the codes neurons use to represent information about visual percepts in the temporal lobe (in humans as well as monkeys). Within Systems Biology, I am using computational tools to understand the mechanisms that cells use to regulate transcriptional activity. Are you wondering about what it's like to have a family while being an MIT postdoc?  Are you concerned about supporting a family on a postdoc salary while living in Boston?  Do you need advice or suggestions about these or any other postdoc issues?  I am transitioning to a faculty position at Tulane as of Spring 2007, but feel free to contact me; I'm happy to do my best to help!

I am a protein biochemist by training and I am currently working on protein folding mechanisms and conformational diseases. Specifically, my project focuses on the folding and unfolding mechanisms of crystallin proteins that are presented in the human eye lens, and the mechanisms of cataract formation. I will be more than happy to answer your legitimate questions to the best of my knowledge, and to help you in finding the information you need.
